Theme? What is a theme? And why have a wedding theme?

Every wedding has its own theme. Some weddings are so standard that the theme disappears altogether as the day turns into a basic and regular event. As an example, if you are attending an Indian wedding, you will find Indian food, Indian bridal outfit and Indian music, whereas if you attend a Chinese wedding, you will find Chinese surroundings. Likewise, if you choose an Arab wedding, you will have an Arab surrounding.

However, if you are attending an Indian wedding, and at the entrance you find Chinese welcome counters, and waiters in Chinese dress, food in Chinese style, and Chinese decor, then perhaps this is a Chinese theme at an Indian wedding.

But why have a theme? Many Asians have not been to a Chinese wedding, and they may not have anticipated the change this will bring to their day.

The majority will enjoy the change, as they have seen and been in a basic, standard Indian wedding. This will give the feeling that they are in a Chinese wedding, which encourages the guest to stay longer, and means that the memory may last for a long time.

The theme could be anything such as a Bollywood Indian film theme, Rajasthani, Punjabi, English, Arabic, Chinese, Morrocan, African. This does not stop there. You can have a pineapple theme, a Maharaja theme, a Royal theme, a mango or mixed fruit theme, a garden theme, animal theme, child friendly theme, snow theme, winter theme. The list can go on and on.

Some themes are not possible on a large scale in the UK, due to weather and space, or the fact that the venue can only be hired for a day or a certain number of hours. If you only have three hours for decorating the venue, and an hour for taking down the decor at the end, then this would severely limit the scale of what you could do.

But still, within limitations great things can happen.

I believe a theme is a good idea at weddings. It gives a new look and gives guests something new to enjoy.

Having a theme at your wedding may not cost a fortune. If you plan your wedding well, and have time in hand, and work in partnership, and participate in the theme, then it could cost a little less than you think. You just need a vision and good planning.

The cheapest and most popular theme is an Arabic theme. It requires very little thought and it Muslim friendly. If you are looking for a wedding theme, then look just a little further, and you will find the perfect one for you.

Winter weddings lend themselves well to romantic and colorful themes. When we think of winter, we think of snow and holly, fireplaces and colored lights, reds paired with greens or classic white and black. Winter is a time of families gathering close together to ward off the cold. It is a time of rebirth, of promise, and of planning for the future. Winter weddings can be truly special, and what better way to capitalize on their romance than by designing a wedding around a winter theme?

Winter Wonderland:
Deck the halls with holly, tulle, and poinsettias. Line the aisles with snow-like tulle. Cover the tables with velvet, and let your winter light shine with lanterns and candles on every surface and fairy lights on the ceiling. Dance to crooning Christmas carols by Bing Crosby and Judy Garland. Enjoy the romance and keep each other warm.

Ski Retreat:
Marry in style in a little chapel and rush to the warmth and coziness of a ski-lodge reception. If yours is a small wedding, you could hold it in an actual ski-lodge or a cabin complete with glowing hearth fires. Serve drinking chocolate and hot toddies and show off your moves on the dance floor, styled in sleek and fur-covered snow bunny fashion.

White and red:
Mirror the season with dress, invitations, and tablecloths the color of fallen snow. Hang swags of tulle from the pews at the church and from pillars and walls at the reception. Carry a stunning bouquet of blooming red roses as you walk down the aisle to your groom who is dressed in a dashing white tuxedo. Decorate the reception hall with a profusion of white lilies and let a few red roses and poinsettias add drama. Beach:
A popular winter honeymoon getaway, the beach can also make a good wedding theme. Guests and bridal couple alike are probably tired of the cold weather and could use a little sun and color. Throw a beach-themed wedding with deep turquoise and coral colors. Party at the reception to the music of the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean. Drink pina coladas, fuzzy navels, and margaritas alongside shish kebabs and mahi mahi or even hot dogs and hamburgers. Give the guests beach-themed favors with bottles of sand or shells engraved with your names and the wedding date.

You can throw a themed wedding with the creative use of color, by emulating the decorations and themes from a favorite movie, or by creating your own brand of paradise in your reception hall. Your interest as a couple should be the first consideration since it is a celebration of your lifelong relationship. There is no better theme than something that is close to your heart. A beach-themed wedding is a good choice if you are both close to nature. Alternative choices are glamorous movie premiere, a Victorian theme, garden wedding.

The tone of the event should be specified in the invitation according to the theme you have chosen. Would you like a formal wedding, laid back and casual, or a combination of both? Consider the type of guests you have and the type of the wedding theme.

Consider the season when choosing your theme. Obviously, an outdoor wedding theme such as garden and beach wedding themes are not a good idea during rainy or winter season.

A major consideration when choosing your theme is the budget. Certain wedding themes can be costly compared to a low-budgeted wedding. Weddings can be a blissful one without the lavish, a simple and creative wedding is still possible with proper preparations.

Wedding Invitation

After deciding for your wedding theme and the final list of entourage, preparation for the wedding invitation comes next. Make sure that all sponsors and entourage are already confirmed for the wedding before including their names on the list. Decide on the type of invitation and the vendor who will do it. If you have time and creative, you can do your own invitation to cut cost and include your personal touch to it.
