We're actually living in Chicago, but are having our wedding in NY because that's where we met and are both from. But we want Chicago to be a part of the wedding, so we're naming each table after a Chicago landmark (Wrigley Field, Michigan Avenue, Chicago Theater, etc.), and having a corresponding engagement photo at that table of us in front of the landmark. I think that's something that people would remember more than a little silver statue.

So get creative and think of something that's important to the two of you, and see if you can get a table theme out of it.

For a tinge of unconventionality, some couples opt for something different as their wedding favor. Instead of the predictable photo album or frame, candle or napkin, they choose to have coasters. Being what they are, coasters are suitable as wedding favors as they can be constant reminders to guests of the bride and groom's special day. Placed on the table either as pieces of decoration or beer mats, coasters are perfect as branding tools for a product or event.

Coaster wedding favors help remind the guests of the wedding and even better, of the bride and groom. They are also functional, which means, your guests will be able to use them in their own homes and offices after the party is over. And if they are designed prettily enough, your guests will display them around for quite a while after your wedding day.

These keepsakes are not as straightforward as you would think. Today, wedding coasters can be simple drink mats to lay your drink upon or items that can magically morph into place card holders or photo frames. The choice is yours!

Simple coaster wedding table gifts are the uncomplicated ones where wedding pictures of the bridal couple are laminated on them with some wedding details like names, date and venue. These can be made of hard board, thick plastic, paper fiber, cork, ceramic or glass (usually frosted). They can even be fully transparent. Photos of the bride and groom can be easily laminated on the ones made of board, plastic or paper. For the ones made of ceramic or glass, however, usually the photo is placed between the ceramic or glass with a layer of thin hard plastic on the top to protect it.

The less straightforward ones will have detachable photo compartments between the actual coaster and the layer of plastic on it. This means the photo is replaceable with any other, which may be more useful to your guests.

They can always keep your wedding picture in their album and use your wedding coasters to hold their own precious memories while being reminded of your wedding on a regular basis. These also become useful place card holders, which hold more than just pictures. If designed appropriately, such presents may just be displayed in a boutique or board room of one of your guests, and in place of a photo, you will find an impressive business card.

Coasters as tokens of appreciation at your wedding reception are not boring gift items. Gone are the days when coasters were just pieces of hard boards lying around on the table all stained and smeared with what you hope is beverage. At first glance, they may look like photo frames and it is only on a second look that you will realize that they are in fact, coasters.

Wedding coasters are also perfect for themed, seasonal or location-sensitive weddings. The tropical theme wedding, for example, can have coasters with pictures of palm trees, sand dunes or tropical fruits while weddings on the beach can have coaster favors that depict sailboats, sea shells and sandcastles. Fall weddings can have maple leaves or bare trees as their main design while those in winter can have snowflakes and snow-capped trees on theirs.

It may seem that wedding coasters these days no longer function just as a mat for your drinks. Some coasters are even matched up with candle holders, with prop handles behind so they can be propped up as and when necessary.

These items are also easy to present at the reception. With such beautiful designs on them, you will need nothing more than an organza or satin ribbon to tie around your gifts. While giving two coasters per guest is best, one per person is sufficient as well. You have a choice of either putting each one at each seat during the reception or leaving them in a pile at the exit for your guests to pick up on their way out.

As wedding favors, you have your choice of photo or printed coasters. Either way, you can be assured that your little wedding guest table gifts will be much appreciated by your guests long after your party is over.

I like seeing the picture of the couple but I don't want it. The one time I got one I tossed the picture and kept the frame. It took a long time to toss the picture because I felt guilty but in the end I didn't want it so I did. If the couple were my great friends I would keep the picture but not display it.

I didn't see many left behind but there were some.

I don't think we are expected to keep them. When I sent out the "Thank You" cards after my wedding, we slipped in a small photo of us at the reception (taken by our photographer) in each. I knew some friends and relatives would have liked to have it but that most would toss it. I was fine with it.

My DH would leave it behind.

Illegal alien marrying a green card holder - procedure!!!?

Hi, I have a friend who is a green card holder and is eligible for naturalization in less than two years (she has been in the US for a little more than 3 years). She is marrying a person who overstayed his status and is considered an illegal alien. Can she still apply for naturalization in two years? And can her husband benefit from the two years they would have been married by the time she applies for her citizenship if/when they apply for adjustment of his status to permanent residency? In other words, will the INS consider the time spent together as a married couple in favor of her husband's legalization proceedings? Your answers and comments are greatly appreciated.

As the bride and groom, part of your responsibility is to buy special gifts for the wedding participants. These gifts are meant to show appreciation for their hard work that they provided during the planning of the wedding. Also, these wedding favors show your gratitude to them for being a good friend by standing up as a part of the wedding on your special day. Although couples want to buy something nice and unique for each person, knowing what to buy and for whom can be challenging. Here is what you need to know before you buy.

Parent Gifts

Although buying a gift for the bride and groomÂ’s parents is not traditional, we see a growing number of couples wanting to show their gratitude in a public way to mom and dad. If you want to choose gifts for the parents, be selective. Purchase something unique for each person. These gifts do not have to be expensive but they should be something that will make a lasting impression.

Bride & Groom Gifts

Commonly, the bride will buy a gift for the groom and the groom will buy something for the bride. Although these gifts could be presented within days or even weeks before the wedding, a beautiful option is to have the special gift delivered to the other person the day of the wedding, usually at the church. Again, choose a gift that is special, perhaps a jewelry item that can be worn on the wedding day.

Bridesmaid Gifts & Groomsmen Gifts

The bridesmaids and groomsmen should be recognized for their involvement in the wedding. Typically, the maid of honor and best man are given unique gifts while the bridesmaids and groomsmen receive the same gift or gifts of equal value. For instance, a bride might purchase a personalized spa set for the maid of honor while the bridesmaids might be given monogrammed travel bags and jewelry pouches. The groom might give the best man a set of leather, monogrammed coasters while the groomsmen might be presented engraved glass mugs.

Flower Girl & Ring Bearer Gifts

Even these individuals should receive something small, as a show of your appreciation. The ages of the flower girl and ring bearer are a consideration for what to buy. For example, if the children are around age three to six, then a $20 gift certificate to a local toy store is ideal.

Gifts for Special Individuals

Many times, the bride and groom will have someone special in their lives, a person who was a huge contributor in life. For instance, perhaps a special grandparent, aunt, or even a friend that did something extraordinary for them. In this case, a small token of appreciation is perfectly fine, although not necessary.

Some tips for choosing wedding favors and gifts include trying to keep them personal. In other words, rather than run into a store at the last minute to make sure you have a gift in hand, take your time to really consider the individual and choose something appropriate. If you find something online or through a company in another state or country, allow yourself ample time to order so the gift arrives before the wedding. It's a good idea attach a small, personal note with each gift to let the person know the reason he or she is so important in your life.

Finally, wedding gifts and favors give you a great opportunity to show your appreciation and gratitude to the people participating in your wedding. If you follow these suggestions, your wedding gifts will be more personal and, as a result, more meaningful to the people that mean the most to you.

What's a good name for my wedding business?

I'm going to try running my own wedding supply website, specialising is wedding jewellery, favors, invites and wedding lingerie. Does anyone have a good idea what to call it?

Speaking from experience (this is what I do for living!)

No one will remember your name, if you use a happy wedding pun.. trust me,
a) every different combination of"wedding words" has been used already
b) the average user gets so confused about remembering, they'll just bookmark your website.

This is what your clients will be seeing: long lists of "cute" names, all of which will sound exactly the same, one minute later.

- Try something simple and personal, like YOUR name.
- Choose something that starts with "A" if possibly. Be on top of most lists
- If you use two words, make them start with the same letter (ex. "fabulous favors") they are easier to remember
- Don't worry too much about the name - worry about your content and marketing. You can brand the dumbest name, just by repetition

Hundreds of companies like the one you are thinking about are currently advertising in our system. I wil tell you, for free, that the successfull ones have totally average names. But really good marketing.

If anything, names like "something blue" simply tell your clients that you lack imagination! They are obvious..

Oh, one more thing: right now, 80% of wedding searches online include the word "cheap" or "budget" in them. Economy is bad. Try "budget wedding supplies" and you 'll probably become rich!
