how to distinguish the silver-plated solid gold?
I've come into possession of a number of items such as sugar, tea, etc. and want to know is there any way I can establish whether they are solid silver or plated without dragging an expert (a long way from here!)
Silver will "Sterling" and the percentage stamped somewhere ........ like 9 something (can not remember exactly) of the mural will have the name of the manufacturer and that's all. Please brands, which are probably the plate and may be resilvered. True Sterling is heavy. Plaque can be quite light ...... especially the older stuff.
