Indian Wedding Favor Suggestions
Arranging an Indian wedding? Or is your bride or groom of Indian lineage? During weddings, giving wedding favors are also customary in the Indian culture. Same with the general concept, wedding favors in Indian weddings are meant to express gratitude and appreciation for the time and blessings of the guests to the new couple. As much as they have made the wedding memorable, the couple also would want their guests to leave and have a token of appreciation for the time spent with them.
Here are some suggestions for traditional Indian wedding favors:
- Spice packets – These unique and flavorful spices are common in Indian cuisine. Some spices that are commonly used in Indian cooking include cinnamon, chili powder, tumeric, cumin, saffron, and mustard seed. You can make mini jars of these or create one use packets to make it easy for your guests when they are cooking a meal.

- Honey jars – This sweet edible favor is also a common gift favor in India. Simply print out a personalized color label a place it on the jars that you will give to your guests.
- Other favors are: Sandalwood fan, beaded jewelry box, silver coins, or dried fruits.
- Elephant shaped soap and candles – The elephant is an important image used in so many occasions, symbolisms and in religious celebrations. Have soaps or candles elephant-shaped and this is a fool-proof wedding favor.
- Bracelets – Indian women love to accessorize.
Similar in Bollywood where women wear a number of bracelets or necklaces, and even elaborate headdresses, their love for such accessories will make your bracelet favors a hit. Make it as elaborate or as decorated as possible to ensure that your female guests will like them.
Other traditional favors, that while they may not be local to India in nature, they are popular and generally accepted as well. Such favors are: coasters, candle holder and Jordan almonds.
As for packaging, you can use organza bags to make them more presentable and you will seem to have really spent a lot of time preparing them. Depending on the item, you can also put the favor inside a clear cellophane bag and tie it up with a ribbon.
If you do not have an Indian community in your area, you can buy Indian wedding favors online. Make sure your budget includes the shipping and other applicable taxes. If you are in the US, many US sites offer Indian favors as well so no need to shop internationally. Also make sure that the delivery date can be met.
By being culturally-sensitive to these items, you are sure to please all of your guests on your special day. Make sure that Indian customs, traditions, and wedding etiquette are also followed so that you will not seem culturally insensitive and also make sure that you don’t disrespect any traditions or Indian values.
